In game one of the State Tournament, Lonnie Lowe held Charlotte to three singles and his teammates hammered out a 13-2 win. Science Hill then advanced to the finale by defeating Memphis Messick 4-1 as Steve Spurrier was the winning pitcher.
In the finals, Memphis Messick again was the victim. Steve Spurrier singled in Tom Hager for the only run of the game. Lonnie Lowe fired a two hitter.
