In game one of the State Tournament, Lonnie Lowe held Charlotte to three singles and his teammates hammered out a 13-2 win. Science Hill then advanced to the finale by defeating Memphis Messick 4-1 as Steve Spurrier was the winning pitcher.
In the finals, Memphis Messick again was the victim. Steve Spurrier singled in Tom Hager for the only run of the game. Lonnie Lowe fired a two hitter. Memphis' Sayle tripled in the seventh, but was cut down at the plate when Joe Cowell relayed Al Ferguson's throw home in time for Choo Tipton to nail the runner and nip the Memphis threat.
