ASSISTANT COACH: ANDY WALLEN
Coach Andy Wallen began his baseball coaching career at Science Hill as an assistant to Bob Dempsey in 1997. He then worked as an assistant under Bernie Young for the next six seasons from 1998 to 2003. Coach Wallen was the head coach of the varsity program for two years in 2004 and 2005. He also served as a part of Bill McKinney’s staff in 2007. Since 2010, Coach Wallen has worked as a varsity program assistant under Ryan Edwards. In total, Coach Wallen has spent time at all levels of the Science Hill baseball program for 23 seasons.
He played high school baseball under Mike Cline at Sullivan South High School and as a senior was an All-Conference selection from the 1990 team that captured a conference, district, and regional title. He earned a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University in 1995 and a master’s degree from Lincoln Memorial University in 2002. He later added a gifted education endorsement from Vanderbilt University in 2009. Coach Wallen was nominated by the teaching staff at Liberty Bell Middle School as a Building Level 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year candidate.
Coach Wallen is married to Krystall Wallen. She graduated from Daniel Boone High School and Milligan College where she was a two sport athlete in softball and basketball. She began her teaching career at Sullivan South High School and coached both sports for a total of fourteen years. Krystall continues to teach today at West Ridge High School. In 2017, she was honored as Sullivan County Teacher of the Year and inducted into the Daniel Boone Sports Hall of Fame. She was honored as Sullivan County Teacher of the Year for a second time in 2023. Both Coach Wallen and his wife are presently working in their 28th year in education.

ASSISTANT COACH: KEVIN CONNER
Coach Kevin Conner began his baseball coaching career at Science Hill as a freshmen/JV coach under Andy Wallen in 2004. He then coached at Sullivan South as a freshmen/JV coach during the 2005-06 seasons. Coach Conner spent the 2007 season coaching at T.A. Dugger. He then returned to Science Hill in 2008. Coach Conner coached the 8th grade from 2008-2010, JV from 2011-2014, and 7th grade from 2015-2020. Coach Conner joined the Science Hill varsity staff for the 2021 season.
Coach Conner played high school baseball under Bill Permakoff at Bearden, whose 1994-1995 teams made it to the sub-state. Coach Conner then played from 1996-99 at Milligan College under Doug Jennett and Ray Smith. ASSISTANT COACH: COREY MOSER
Coach Corey Moser began his baseball coaching career at Science Hill as a varsity assistant in the fall of 2017. He has had other various coaching duties including working with the Fulton High School baseball program in 2014 under Science Hill Alum Coach Ryan Gentry, and Head Coach at Sullivan North Middle School in 2015. He also coached multiple sports, including baseball and basketball, as the Physical Education Teacher at Surgoinsville Middle School in 2016.
Coach Moser played high school baseball under Coach John Rice at Karns High School. He then went on to play college baseball at Carson-Newman under Coach Tom Griffin. From Carson-Newman, he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education K-12, and then furthered his education at East Tennessee State University by earning his Master's Degree in Elementary Education K-6. Coach Moser spent 3 years teaching 1st grade at Lake Ridge Elementary School, and currently teaches Physical Education at Towne Acres Elementary School in the Johnson City Schools system.

JUNIOR VARSITY HEAD COACH: MIKE AUSTIN
Coach Mike Austin joined the Science Hill coaching staff during the 2019-2020 school year. Coach Austin began his coaching career at Vance Middle School in Bristol Tennessee (2001-2007). From 2008-2018 Coach Austin was part of the Tennessee High School baseball staff where he was the Head JV baseball coach and a Varsity assistant. Coach Austin has coached at various levels of baseball for close to twenty years. He played high school baseball for Tim Graham at Abingdon High School in Abingdon Virginia, as a senior he was an all-conference and all- state selection. He later went on and played for Coach Jerry Opp at Virginia Intermont College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education with a K-12 certification.
Coach Austin is Married to Dorothy Austin she is a UTC graduate where she received a business degree and Earned a Master’s degree in teaching from ETSU and is currently employed by the Bristol Tennessee City School system as a seventh grade math teacher at Vance Middle School. JUNIOR VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH: MATTHEW GLOVER
Coach Matthew Glover is beginning his 18th season of coaching baseball, in which his coaching career began at Alief Taylor High School in Houston, TX as a Varsity Assistant in 2005-2006. He then coached at Morton Ranch High School in Katy, TX as a Varsity Assistant in 2007. He then coached at James E. Taylor High School in Katy, TX as a Varsity Assistant from 2008-2015, then served as the Head Coach from 2016-2020 before returning home to the Tri-Cities. During his time as a head coach, he made 3 playoff appearances in 4 years and had 23 players go on to play college baseball. In 2021, he was a Varsity Assistant for the final year of Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, TN, before coming to Science Hill. During each of those stops he coached Football every year as well and is currently coaching football at Science Hill.
During his coaching tenure, Coach Glover has coached 4 NFL players (Martellus Bennett, Mike Tauilili, Phillip Supernaw and Cullen Gillaspia, who is currently on the New York Giants roster) as well as 1 MLB player (Taylor Featherston) and one current MiLB player (Dane Myers, AA Detroit Tigers).
Coach Glover played high school baseball under coach Jimmy King at John Battle in Bristol, VA and got his bachelors degree from Berea College in Berea, KY. He teaches Architecture and Engineering Design at Science Hill as part of their CTE program. Coach Glover comes from a family of coaches as his father Skip coached Football, Wresting, Track and Baseball during his tenure at Garden High School (Vansant, VA), John Battle High School (Bristol, VA) and Abingdon High School (Abingdon, VA), as well as his sister Nikki was an assistant softball coach at Woodbridge High School (Woodbridge, VA) and a Head Softball Coach at R.J. Reynolds High School (Winston-Salem, NC).
Coach Glover is married to Misty, whom graduated from Daniel Boone and then Texas A&M University. Misty has been an Accountant and English Teacher while the family was located in Texas. Coach Glover and his wife have two beautiful children – Maysie (3) and Maddux (1).
